William “Bill” Hand, 98 of Peru passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2021 at his home.
He was born in Peru on May 14, 1923 to Charles and Alma Joy (Sawyer) Hand.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Delight (Constable) Hand on August 15, 2021. They were married on July 19, 1945.
In their 76 years of marriage they had four daughters, Tana Bondar of Peru, Pam Sampson (Gary) of Denver, Lynn Morris (John) of Peru and Becky Martin (Charles) of Elwood, 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren.
He served for 6 years in the Navy during WWII on the USS Aircraft Carrier WASP which was sunk at Guadalcanal on September 15, 1942.
After returning to civilian life he went to work on the N&W Railroad.
In his younger years he enjoyed carpentry and yardwork. Bill had a great sense of humor, quick witted, always grateful and never complained. He loved kids and animals. In his golden years his walk with the Lord deepened as he looked forward to his home in Heaven. With age comes a saying “If you can’t be good be nice.” Bill was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
There will be no visitation or service.
Burial with Military Rites will be performed at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Bill’s online guestbook is available and condolences can be shared with the family at www.riverviewfhperu.com.
