Ronald "Ronnie" Sykes

Ronald “Ronnie” Sykes, 72, passed away peacefully at home, on Sunday, June 23, 2024. Ronnie was born in Peru, on May 21,1952, to the late Milford Burney and Mary Vance.

Ronnie graduated from Peru High School. After graduating, Ronnie worked at Redmon’s in Peru where he dedicated over 25 years of service to. In his free time Ronnie loved to play the guitar, go fishing, and he especially loved to paint. Ronnie never met a stranger, and he earned the title of amateur comedian by those that were close to him.

Ronnie is survived by a son; Brooks Smith, brothers; Larry Sykes, Donnie (Sharon) Sykes Garick (Irene) Burney, Willie (Debra) Burney, Marcus Burney (Carolyn), Nimmie (Karen) Burney, Winfred (Suzette) Burney, sisters; Kathy (Michael) Burt, Sophia Burger, Christine (Terry) Johnson, Alicia (Rodney) Burney, and a granddaughter; Sara Smith, Special friend, Tyla Steele.

Ronnie was preceded in death by brother, Christopher Burney, and brother-in-law, AJ Burger.

A funeral service honoring the life of Ronnie will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 1 pm, located at Riverview Funeral Home, 421 West Canal Street, Peru. Friends may visit with the family from 12 noon until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Peru.
