Richard “Rick” Sparks, 73, of Peru, passed away peacefully at home on November 24, 2023. Rick was born to the late Woodrow Sparks and Imogene Palma on November 8, 1950, in Covington Kentucky.
On October 22, 1993, Rick married Patricia (Mize) Sparks, who preceded him in death in 2020. Rick Graduated from Peru High School in 1969. After graduation Rick went on to serve in the United States Army. After serving in Vietnam, Rick worked as a railroad conductor for Norfolk Southern Railroad for over 40 years.
In his free time, Rick enjoyed shooting guns, spending time with family and friends, anything outdoors, and he especially loved to gamble.
Rick is survived by his children; Dawn (Dale) Birnell, Heather Sparks, Nikki (Carlos) Gomez, brother; Bill (Deb) Sparks, sister; Karla Blair, grandchildren; Zach Birnell, Bailey Mavrick, Dylan Hopper, Christian Hopper, Jacob Hopper, Vanesa Gomez, Leo Gomez, Travis Fuqua, Shayna Fuqua, great- grandchildren; Serenity Birnell, Zerreck Birnell, step-daughter; Tonya(Erick) Atkinson and several very special aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his sister; Connie Garrett.
A Memorial Service honoring the life of Rick will be held at 1 pm, on December 1, 2023, at Riverview Funeral Home located at 421 W. Canal Street, Peru, with Pastor Kenny Cole officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 11 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Mexico Cemetery where Military Rites will be performed.
