Paul Francis Stanton, 89, of Peru, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 12, 2024, at
Wellbrooke of Wabash. Paul was born on July 16, 1934, to the late Lyman and Hilda
(Shauman) Stanton, in Peru.
Paul graduated from Peru High School in 1952 and from Indiana State Teachers College in
1956 with his bachelor’s degree in education, returning three years later for his master’s degree
after serving three years active duty with the US Navy. Paul served the US Naval Academy
as a Blue and Gold Officer for 41 years. He taught art and driver’s training for over 40 years,
completing over 30 years with Peru High School, in 1996. His tenure with Peru Community
Schools continued through service on the Peru School Board and included years of coaching,
timing, scoring, and supporting Peru athletic events. He was instrumental in preserving,
restoring, inventorying, and maintaining the Thompson art collection. His hobbies included
cartooning, painting, gardening, Cubs and Cardinals baseball, and telling corny jokes.
Paul married Carolyn Hall of Logansport in April 1957 and they enjoyed 65 years together
before Carolyn passed away in 2022. Paul is survived by his daughters; Lynn Bockover, Peru;
Susan Arthur, Greenwood; and son, David (Amy) Stanton, Columbus. Grandchildren include
Jacob (Bridgette) Bockover, Plymouth; Joseph Bockover, Peru; Samuel Arthur, Greenwood;
Kathlyn Arthur, Indianapolis; Logan (Devon) Edmonson, North Vernon; and Jesse Stanton,
North Vernon. Great grandchildren include Gabriel, Owen, and Reed Bockover; Evelynn
Bockover; MaKenna and Mariah Edmonson; and Calvin Warstler.
Paul is also survived by brother-in-law, Kent Hall, Logansport; and sister-in-law, Sally Hall,
Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.
Loved ones who preceded him in death, besides his parents, include his wife, Carolyn Stanton;
his twin brothers and their wives, Ray (Vivian) and Kay (Joan) Stanton; and son-in-law, Howard
Bockover.
A Memorial Service, with Military Rites, will be held at the First Christian Church on
Saturday July 27, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor James Loft officiating. Visitation will be from
10 a.m. until noon at First Christian Church.
