Jerry Lee Chase, 73, of Roanoke formerly of Peru passed away at 3:22 a.m., Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne, after a long battle with health issues.
Born on February 14, 1947 in Milan, IN, he was the son of the late Dilver and Irma Chase, Jr.
Jerry was a 1965 Rising Sun High School graduate.
He was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran where he was a fireman for over 20 years. He was EXTREMELY proud of his service to our country!
While in the Air Force he was extremely active in men’s softball as a catcher. Later he was involved in bowling leagues, but his PASSION was playing in pool leagues is Miami, Wabash, and Howard Counties. He was KING of the tables! The young ones would line up to try to take “Mr. Clean” down, but that wasn’t going to happen! He was awarded city, county, state, and even national awards for skills on the table.
He enjoyed life to it’s fullest! His smile would light up the room! He was called Dad, and Grandpa by so many because he made you feel like you were family!
He lived the last few years with his devoted daughter and son in law, Brian and Miranda Chase Griffith in Peru, until they moved to Roanoke 2 years ago to “The Ranch” were he enjoyed the country life. He spent his time out watching the cars go by, or sitting on the river watching it flow. when feeling up to it, he would jump on the mower to cut the grass. His little buddy, Moxon, escorted him to all his VA visits and made sure that they treated his “Grandpa” right!
Survivor’s include 2 daughters; Miranda Chase Griffith(Brian) of Roanoke, IN & Monica Chase Gamble (Rick) of Murfreesboro, Tennesse. 2 sisters Connie Chase McNeal , and Christine Chase Patton both of Florida. 4 grandchildren, Kaitlynn Cassel, Kelsee Baker, Kloee Cassel (all from Peru) and Gabrielle Gamble(Murfreesboro, Tennesse . 3 great grandchildren, Mason Baker, Roree Baker and Myles Baker (all of Peru, IN).3 Nieces Renee Short (Jeff) of Connersville, IN , Angela Cutter of Vevay, IN, and Melanie Franze of Florida. 2 nephews, Jeremy Cutter (Stephanie) OF Vevay, IN, and Wayne Stamer (Cassandra) of Covington, KY. As well as several great nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by both parents, and a brother, Orville Wayne Chase.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at Riverview Funeral Home, 421 W. Canal St., Peru.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 12, 2020 at the funeral home.
Burial with Full Military Rites will be performed at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Peru.
