Frank Edward Gilbert

Frank Edward Gilbert, 73, Peru, passed away at 4:05 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Hickory Creek of Peru.

Born July 6, 1945, in Peru, Indiana, he was the son Francis “Bud” Gilbert and Laura Inez Townsend Gilbert.  On April 8, 1972, the 99th day of the year, he was married to Kristen M. Whaley, and she survives.

Frank graduated from Peru High School in 1963. He enlisted in the United States Army and served during Vietnam in the Philippines.  He attended University of Maryland, University of the Philippines, and IU Kokomo.  He was active in scouting in his youth, receiving his Eagle Scout Award.  He later served as a scout leader watching his son through the years until he received his Eagles Scout Award.  He was an devout Catholic and lifelong member of Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, in Peru and a member of the Knights of Columbus.  He was Past Exalted Ruler of the Peru Elks Lodge, B.P.O.E. #365 and a member of the V.F.W. of Peru.

Frank worked for many years at the Peru Trust Company.  He also worked for Guyer the Mover, and Pasquale’s in Logansport.  He volunteered with the Peru Circus City Festival for many years, serving on the Board of Directors and Parade Chairman.  He was a clown with the Peru Amateur Circus, and he worked as professional clown with the Pat Kelly Circus Clowns.

Survivors include his wife, Kris M. Gilbert, Peru; son, Frank Eric Gilbert, his wife Kristen N., and their daughters, Lydia Grace and Emma Faith Gilbert; sisters and brothers-in law, Rita (Hollis) Moor, Twelve Mile; Jan Lomax, Logansport; Theresa (Tom) MacIntosh, Logansport; Stephen (Peggy) Whaley, Logansport; Mark (Carol) Whaley, Logansport; Mary Jo Keenan, Michigan; and Chuck Waley (Ann O’Connor), Indianapolis; special cousin Della Barrett, California; and several nieces and nephews.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Patricia Gilbert.

A Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, in Peru, Indiana, with Reverend Father Andrew DeKeyser officiating.  Burial will be at a later date in Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Cemetery.  Military rites will be presented at the church following the service by the members of the Miami County Military Rites Unit.

Visitation will be from 9-11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
