Donald "Gene" Whittenberger

Donald " Gene" Whittenberger 79, of Mexico passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at his home. Gene was born on November 8, 1945 in Peru to the late Donald D. and Maggie (Clemons) Whittenberger.  Gene married Cheryl (Conklin) Whittenberger, and they had 57 years together.

Gene was a 1964 graduate of North Miami High School.  He went on to serve in the Army National Guard.  He was a machinist at Thrush/Amtrol in Peru until he opened Whittenberger Studio and spent many years photographing seniors, weddings, and families.   He also worked as a DJ in radio stations and events throughout his life. Always interested in broadcasting, he built and ran his own local radio station in Mexico, IN.  He was also known for posting many humorous pictures and posts on Facebook.

Gene is survived by his wife; Cheryl (Conklin), daughter; Tina Adkins, grandson; Travis Adkins.

He was preceded in death by mother-in-law; Dorothy (Riffe) Bakehorn and father-in-law; LeRoy Conklin.

As per Gene's wishes, no services will be held.
