Carolyn S. Stanton, 86, of Peru, passed away peacefully at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2022 at
Blair Ridge Healthcare Center in Peru.
Born on May 11, 1936 in Logansport, she was the daughter of the late Ralph E. and Mabel (Ping) Hall,
who were both school teachers. She graduated from Logansport High School in 1954 and earned her
bachelor’s degree in education in 1958 from Indiana State Teachers College. She subsequently received
a master’s degree from Indiana University and taught elementary school, mostly kindergarten, at Peru
Community Schools for nearly 30 years.
In April 1957 Carolyn married Paul F. Stanton, who survives. She was a member of First Christian Church
in Peru where she was the organist for over 20 years. While still in high school, she was church organist
and played piano in a dance band in Logansport. Over the years she provided piano music and
accompaniment at Peru High School, Ole Olsen Memorial Theatre, and many other community and
private functions.
After her retirement from teaching, Carolyn served on the Civic Center board, Peru Public Library board,
Red Cross board, and she was a volunteer and officeholder with Dukes Auxiliary for over 20 years. She
belonged to Psi Iota Xi sorority and the Peru Art Club. She enjoyed reading, quilting, and music. In
recent years her primary focus was caring for her husband and making frequent trips to the library.
Survivors include her husband, Paul F. Stanton; daughters Lynn Bockover, Peru; and Susan Arthur,
Greenwood; son David (Amy) Stanton, Columbus; grandchildren Jacob (Bridgette) Bockover, Plymouth;
Joseph Bockover, Peru; Samuel Arthur, Greenwood; Kathlyn Arthur, Indianapolis; Logan (Devon)
Edmonson, North Vernon; Jesse Stanton, North Vernon; Jonathon (Hope) Deater, Edinburgh; Mason
Day, Columbus. Great grandchildren are Gabriel, Owen, and Reed Bockover; MaKenna and Mariah
Edmonson; Lucy and Lainey Deater.
Carolyn is also survived by her brother, Kent Hall, Logansport; sister-in-law, Sally Hall, Michigan; and
many nieces and nephews.
Loved ones who preceded her in death, besides her parents, include her brother, Keith Hall; sister-in-
law, Beverly Hall; and son-in-law, Howard Bockover.
A Memorial Service will be held at First Christian Church, 53 W Main Street, Peru, Indiana on
Wednesday, September 28 at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor James Loft officiating. Visitation will be from 10
a.m. until noon at the church.
