Alberta Mae (Walton) Wilson, otherwise known as “Ma”, “Down”, and “Butta Mae” made her debut into this life September 13, 1926 in Nettleton, Mississippi to the late Ananias and Nancy (White) Walton. She accepted Christ at an early age in Mississippi. She then married Richard L. Wilson on April 19th, 1979 and was one of many siblings. She later relocated to Peru, Indiana where she united with Mount Hermon Missionary Baptist Church remaining a faithful member until eternal rest.
Alberta was an outspoken woman who lived with mountains ofunwavering faith and commitment to singing in the church choir. She lived a beautifully long life as a God-fearing woman. Outside of church she loved gardening, reading, cooking, fishing, singing, and meeting new people. Alberta touched the lives of all who crossed her path in a very special way. Some would say, “She never met a stranger in her life.” Alberta was the glue that held the family together, strengthening the bond with her divine presence and demonstrating by example the powerful workings of God. She had a very sharp mind and was a blessing to many.
A couple of Alberta’s favorite scriptures are, “When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can a mortal man do to me?” Psalm 56:3,4. As well as “God makes no mistakes” Deuteronomy 32:4.
She was preceded in death by Ananias and Nancy (White) Walton (Parents), Richard L. Wilson (Husband), five children: Arthur Jarnigan, Dorothy Sykes, Diane Wilson-Hatcher, Joyce Ann Smiley, and Gloria Jean Spearman. Her brothers: Ananias Walton Jr, Joshiah ‘Billy’ Walton, Johnny James Walton, Steve Walton, Glenn Walton, and James R. ‘Shorty’ Walton. As well as, her sisters: Mary Walton, Willie Lee Ambrose, Brenda Walton, Kay Walton, and Cora Springer.
Alberta is survived by a son, Charles Jarnigan. Two sisters, Henreita Lee and Genie Terry and a brother, Holly ‘Joe’ Walton. As well as her: grandchildren Sharon (Donald) Sykes, Billy (Deborah) Spearman, Keshia (Joe) Cooper, Cornelia (Willie) Robinson, Lisa (Kevin) Birks, Vevie Sykes, Wanda Sykes, Donald Sykes, Tina (Ben) Lipply, Oko Hartleroad, Charles Hartleroad and a host of great/great-great grandchildren, nieces/nephews, other relatives and friends.
To our family, continue to be encouraged as God has prepared us for any given situation. He knows the depths of our grief and sorrow when we are weak. He’s given us the strength we need to hold us up every day. Faith and fear both require us to believe in the invisible. Continue to choose to have the unwavering faith in the invisible to bring us tranquility in each passing day as her spirit remains with us each and every moment ahead.
We love you Grandma.
